Your Favorite Tea

@musenji  - March 25, 2012, 11:06 a.m.

That's right, I'm talking about tea. For the sake of variety, I'll include herbal stuff.

[edit: Auriplane posted images and I think that is an awesome idea, so I will too.]

I used to HATE Earl Grey, my ST:TNG fanship notwithstanding, but now I like it.

I first started liking tea in third grade, when I realized that loading raspberry tea with sugar was freaking delicious. My mainstay, though, throughout elementary school, middle school, and most of highschool, was Constant Comment by Bigelow, a clove and orange spice tea.

Then I met chai in highschool, and we've been dating ever since. I actually now love the Meijer brand Jasmine Green Tea, it's like the stuff they serve in Chinese restaurants, and it's good for a little caffeine boost when I don't want to get totally hopped up.

What do y'all like? Do you have a teastory?

When I was little, my mom let me drink a lot of tea. But she let me put sugar in it, so I decided I loved tea--when really I loved sugar--and I drank lots of it. She'd say that if I kept drinking so much tea, I'd turn into a letter T, so I started running around with my arms out at both sides, miming a human letter T. But eventually I stopped, and decided I didn't really like tea. I don't know why. A few years ago, I decided to try drinking some herbal teas. I got these: The former, first. It was my first step into the realm that is tea as an adult--though some of my friends claim herbal tea isn't tea. Anyway, I liked it a lot, so I tried the second. I've tried a number of teas since then, but I still really like those two. Besides those, lately, I'm drinking lots of green tea. It's my source of caffeine, which I'm using for energy to keep myself working on my game :-D (And other things, since I'm trying to marathon it rather than sprint.) I have yet to venture beyond bag teas, but my brother has hundreds of kinds of tea, many of which are loose, so I'll probably make it there at some point. In the meantime, he gave me a large Ziploc bag full of tea bags of various kinds to try. So I'll be branching out, most likely :-)

I dated Chai for a while. Then Chai cheated on me and gave my friend the herps. My friend blamed me until the day she died. RIP Jasmine. Now I only drink matcha green tea. Matcha ruined me for other teas.

Tea bags are dead to me. Matcha does not come in tea bags. It is straight from a Japanese farmer's dirty grinding stone. Get some matcha!

Green tea, usually Japanese Sencha. I've tried various Chinese ones but did not like any of them. Also this one...

Dude! I just got the Celestial Seasonings fruity sampler box, for the purpose of making custom syrups for soda. Those two are in the lineup, and I look forward to using them. :-) That story was awesome. Unrelated to tea, but apparently I used to run around the preschool playground, saying, "I'm a ghost! Wheee!" Technically herbal tea isn't tea, but I call it tea because I make and drink it in the same way, and often for similar purpose. So I go by function for that name, rather than physical makeup. I guess my first post implies I'm snooty about it, but I'm actually not. [edit] Hey Trang, I might have to check and see if my local German store has that stuff. Do you like Milka? Random question.

Milka chocolate is pretty mediocre. It isn't exactly bad but it's nothing special at all. In fact all their chocolates taste the same and only differ in shape and wrapping...

Thanks, I prefer dark chocolate myself. :-) I was curious because that's something else that they sell in the German store. The one time I tried it, I did quite like it. It's better than --most-- milk chocolate I've had...

This tea, is so brilliant. I had this sort of redbush/rooibos tea when I was a youngster, and after drinking so much black tea - I have come back to this tea instead. I have also wanted to try white tea, but can't decide whether or not it's a waste of money. Anyone knows?

I have a big ass pot that I feel up 3 times a day and drink all of it. Can't live without my tea.

CBL -- I love Rooibos tea as well. It's so smooth. My favorite Chai is actually a blend of rooiboos and black teas, with the spices. As to your question about white tea, why trust someone else's judgment over your own? People vary widely in taste, so hearing someone else's opinion won't tell you whether you would like it. (And it's what, a 3 to 5 dollar waste if you don't like it?) Yogurt -- what kind of tea?

White tea is about $15 NZD (maybe $12USD) for like 10-15 teabags or something. Steep. Pun. I think it's worthwhile asking for opinions on such matters of taste. If I find I "resonate" with someone on important things and matters of taste, and they like/dislike something for a few reasons I can imagine myself finding also - then I will trust their judgement *if* it's something trivial. Life is too short to test everything - i.e. how would I know which movies are bad without watching them? I think there are enough movies now that your entire life could be spent (without sleeping) watching movies that you'll only end up hating - there has to a better way, and that way is to develop a special kind of informed prejudice (but we won't call it that). :)

NZ, eh? Are the leaves changing right now? I agree with your main point in principle, especially if the person's reasons for liking something are ones I can see myself agreeing with. But, while there are over a million movies in existence, there are only 4 colors of tea (not counting herbals)--black, white, red, green. If you like a strong, robust tea, then white tea probably isn't for you. The fact that you like rooibos makes it more likely that you would like white tea. I'm the kind of person who likes trying new things, so even if I couldn't get white tea for less than 12 dollars, I'd still try it once. Hmm. I have some loose leaf white tea laying around that I'm not really urgently using. Wonder what it would cost to just send you, like, 1/4 cup. :-)

Yeah, they're changing. :/ I prefer the trees to be green. Well after typing what I wrote, I thought about it, and decided I didn't feel so strongly that way. I guess that life is just too short to really get to find everything you could enjoy. Also, there are many different types of tea. Liquorice tea, is green for example, but very nice. As much as I would love to be the recipient, I would imagine some dry leaves might cause suspicion entering in a small non-descript package hehehe, but thanks for the thought. :)
