Chest pain from playing to much o-o

@TheDophine  - Dec. 24, 2009, 8:56 a.m.

lol, hopefully I'm not the only one to experiencing this.. But, lately I've noticed that my chest has been hurting from playing the guitar extensively (in classical position where the top of the guitar curve touches the upper chest).

At first it wasn't much of a big deal, but since this Monday it's progressively getting worse and is actually become a all-day ache on that spot of my chest. It hurts a bit when I move my chest or when I touch the spot, and it just doesn't let up at any point in the day.

Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, lol and maybe some ideas as to how I can help ease this little dilemma. (I've tried playing without the guitar touching my chest but it makes playing a little to awkward.)

well ive never had that happen to me as i started playing electric so my position is always having my guitar on right leg. But from what you have said it looks like your playing incredibly tense. So if your chest is hurting right now try not to play in that position or to touch that area much and it will go away in a matter of days. Try to relax more when playing so this has a less chance of happening. Hope it helped.

Pain from playing to much. Oh, god, why our bodies can't handle it? ;_; I'm pretty much sure that it isn't a big deal. If the pain doesn't go away with rest, tough, you should see a doctor soon. It would be pretty bad if it becomes serious. You wouldn't be able to play! I also play in the classical position, but I have never had chest pain. I guess it's just the way I hold it. Little differences can be serious business. On the other side, depending on where I sit, I often have strong tiring-pain on the right-back. It's very annoying. But it never became constant; always left with rest.

You shouldn't really have pain in your chest if you're sitting properly. I get it sometimes when I'm being lazy and slouching over the guitar a bit but if you're sitting properly your back needs to be straight up and down. Your chest shouldn't be leaning on the guitar, the guitar should be lightly leaning on your chest. Also, if you're gripping the guitar body too hard with your right arm or pulling it too close with your left hand you might be squeezing the guitar into you which you should avoid. Try to use the least amount of pressure you need to to keep the guitar stable. The more pressure you use the more tension you'll get in your arms and this will affect your playing. tl;dr Sit up straight and relax.

Thanks for the advice everyone, it all helped quite a bit. I generally play in good posture, but like kabukibear mentioned, I'm thinking my right/left arm actually are pushing the guitar to hard on my chest. Definitely need to ease up there along with my slouching (Usually when I'm reaching for the mouse/navigate through tabs). lol I don't think its to serious, but it doesn't seem to let up even after sleeping. so a checkup at the office and a padded vest would probably be a good investment.

I think there's a new auto scroll feature for the tabs here so you can keep playing while the tab moves down by itself x)

hmm, from what I understand.. its something to do with the joints in between the collar bone or something of that sort. Not to knowledgeable on the subject, but he has me taking this "arthrotec" medication. lol it helps tho.. just hope its not just a temporary solution (It feels like a pain killer for my chest).

I agree that there's something wrong with your posture. When I used to learn how to play guitar, I had back pain, and I was taking CBD gummies to get rid of it. It helped me a little, but then I decided to start using CBD cream to apply it on my back, and it really helped me. But now I understand that it would have been better if I just had a good posture

Body pain can occur for various reasons. But in this case, I observe the usual overexertion of the chest and the body as a whole. You need to rest and relax more and full spectrum Low-THC Cannabis will help you with this. You will only need one serving a day to feel full of energy. In addition, the cbd product will help you clear your mind.
