Square Soft riddles!

@musenji  - March 15, 2011, 4:06 a.m.

Riddles are really friggin fun. Verily!

The rules:

  1. One riddle at a time. Whoever correctly guesses the riddle (and has the answer confirmed by the riddler) gets to post the next one. They have 48 hours to do so, then the floor is open. (They can also decline to post, and leave the floor open, but c'mon guys, give it a shot.)

  2. The riddler gets to decide whether to give hints, and whether to answer questions. (i.e. It's not 20 questions folks.)

Something that has worked very well is for guessers to post the reasoning behind their guesses--which gives the riddler a chance to steer them along, in an organic fashion. And it keeps people from just randomly guessing.

  1. Riddles are to be made based on Square Soft games (pre-2003) that were released in America. (The reason for this is to limit the field and keep it relatively accessible to all.)

  2. If you are posting a riddle, pick one game to riddle about, and state it in your initial post.

So, the first riddle. It's from Final Fantasy VII:

I reside in darkness where evil’s enlightened Mostly contorted, but sometimes I’m heightened

If you look around, you can tell I’ve been preying Though when I appear, the guitarist keeps playing

1 is a factor and multiple of three. Three breaks down into 1 x 3. Multiply 3 by 1/3 and you get 1. >:D

d'awwww. Okay so anyway CLEARLY the number he's referring to is, in fact, 3. So the answer comes in groups of three. Still not for TOTAL sure that it's enemies but it seems very likely. I'm not totally ruling out Shinrafolk working in the tower (or anything along those lines) cause they would be high up in the building, would have a "nice view"...but then it wouldn't seem to fit the "map" stanza, and I don't remember any of them up there being in threes.

It can't be that, we've established that the answer comes in groups of three.

Two-Faced? This time I think I'll just see if I'm right and save myself typing my quest once again. :D

Negative to both. I don't even know what's two-faced lol. More hints time. Since it's new page here's the riddle again.

if you want to find me then use the next statement as a map but dont believe it all because its mostly full of crap -------------north of condor------------------------ ------------enter bone village--------------------- ---------down a mountain of havoc-------------- ------------look at your menu---------------------- -----------only inaccurate data------------------- ----go outside and backtrack to find us------ when you figure that out then identify me i come in a group one specific multiple of 3 i have a nice view and noone bothers me but the truth is I'm a slave shackled near a tree
I'll just put all the hints here. I'll even reword some to make it easier to understand. Hint 1: The map part of the riddle is exactly how it was stated on the first part. A portion of it is a lie. But COLLECTIVELY it's the truth. Which one is bogus and not is for you to figure out. This riddle can be solved without this part at all, but solving it with just the last part is like searching blind as a bat so you might want to figure this part out. Sure, this riddle won't tell you give you the exact name of the location, but it will pinpoint you to your destination. Hint 2: auriplane had the right idea with view. It really isn't beauty per say, but flying high is a much better answer(but still not exactly right). Hint 3: The multiple IS 3. I was just trying to mislead into thinking it's some other multiple of 3. Hint 4: Shackled doesn't exactly mean your a slave, but auriplane had the right idea saying that you can find it in one area(it's true but I still had a different meaning for it). Hint 5: The keyword of the type of answer I'm looking for is in stanza 3. "Specific." Understand that stanza 3 is that and stanza 2 is your map there. Note that if the answer is specific, so is the location. Hint 6: Notice that there's "us" and "me." Yes, they both refer to the same thing, but going off of hint 5, "us(3)" is specific and the answer I'm looking for while "me" just means that each one is the same. Hint 7: Just because it says noone bothers me, doesn't mean you have to go out of your way to find it. In fact, there's no way to complete the game without encountering the answer. Think of it as that you really didn't care about it at all. Hint 8: If you figure out the map, you will find the answer really fast. Hint 9: This riddle isn't easy. So don't use "easy" answers. Hint 10: I figured you guys would keep on throwing same random answers, but the answer is random(but specific). So I will really help you out. 1. NOT something you can equip. 2. ----------- 3. ----------- 4. -----------

I know the location. It's the golden saucer. I guessed "two face" (the bouncing egg enemy) because they're below the golden saucer, in the corel prison. in prison could metaphorically mean shackled. they have two faces, so you could say they "have a nice view", their view being 360 degrees. :p If you leave them alone in battle, they don't attack you. So they do fit a good deal of the riddle, looked at a certain way. My next idea was Mr. Hangman because they're hung up like slaves used to be sometimes (totally politically incorrect). they're high up ("nice view") until they come to talk to you. and there's a tree outside the hotel. But there are only TWO Mr. Hangmen. *** So what you mean by your hint five is that the answer comes in groups of threes, but the group you're looking for is, specifically, the group that happens in the location outlined in stanza 2. My next idea is the three robots that send you down into the corel prison, because if I'm right they are normal enemies, but this time you have to encounter them because they're part of the plot.

You gotta explain bro. If you know the location, then read the hints and you'll get the answer. I was just going to say the answer but since you're almost there then I want you to go all the way. P.S. If you figured out the map part, you gotta admit it was pretty genius. But seriously, I need your train of thought.

"Golden" is up the left side of the list, and "saucer" is down the right side. And I think that the amount of time it took someone to catch it speaks for itself! Other than that bit, all the logic I have is contained in my previous post. :-) I don't have any guesses other than the three things I listed.

The rule of riddle threads is, if someone does guess the answer, you have to give it to them, even if they post no logic at all. However you are never obligated to tell people whether their guess at just one part of the riddle is correct (such as my golden saucer note). Since I explained three "guesses" in my last post, if one of them is right, you don't have to award me the floor (one guess per post)--it can go to the first person who says "I guess X" and is right. Unless it IS the two-face enemies, in which case I officially guessed them in a previous post, all by themselves.

You final answer is still incorrect. But I'm glad you figured out the second part. I knew it would be you who would get it because you did the yuffie riddle. The big hint without even reading is that I put random lines to make it less noticable. Also,I like making my riddles rhyme! I'll explain how to get this part logically. A portion of it is a lie. But COLLECTIVELY it's the truth was my hint. The only way the whole thing could be the truth is if the last line was correct. Everything else is BS(well maybe not the 2nd to last line). So go outside didn't refer to in game, but the riddle itself! Backtrack meant to go from the bottom up! And alas we have got our place. Golden Saucer. (as I said in my hint, it isn't exactly named Golden Saucer, but it does pinpoint to where it is)

north of condor enter bone village down a mountain of havoc look at your menu only inaccurate data go outside and backtrack to find us
Edit: Honestly, I should just give it to you no matter what because you figured out the first half of the riddle which could easily be 2 riddles. I understand you want to find the answer, but if you do decide to give up, I will reveal the answer and you can take the floor anyway.

good jorb mu snowboarding minigame in the arcade area? the directions had made me think of it before [cant really say why, and it was bs anyway apparently] there's 3 games you can play, and no npc ever messes with this one you get a nice view as you play but you [or the arcade game itself] never moves/"is shackled" and i think there's a tree in the room there [not sure on this]

Wow. What an amazing answer. I like that logic, I love the analogy, but I sadly I have to say no that's not it either. Edit: I have the picture with the answer circled and the explanation saved on notepad just in case no one gets it lol. I would feel so bad for mus if someone else gets it for the effort he put into this.

Oh, I wouldn't feel bad if someone else got it. Them's the breaks sometimes, and anyone who thinks they have it should guess. Nonetheless, I can make one more trip to the Saucer. :-)
